Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong. Everything should be done in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13–14

Be brave.

That sounds great until being brave actually costs you something. It’s easy to say the name of Jesus in church, around Christian friends, or when everyone in the room already believes what you believe. But what happens when the room gets quiet? What happens when mentioning Jesus might make things awkward? What happens when saying His name could change how people see you?

Paul says, “Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong.” Notice he doesn’t say to wait until you feel brave. Sometimes your voice is going to shake. Sometimes your heart is going to race. Sometimes you may be the only person standing.

Stand anyway.

Being brave doesn’t mean being obnoxious, argumentative, or trying to prove you’re the strongest Christian in the room. Paul finishes the thought with, “Everything should be done in love.” That’s the balance. Be bold enough to say His name and loving enough that people can see why His name matters.

We shouldn’t be ashamed of the One we say saved us. Jesus was there when nobody else knew what we were going through. He was faithful through the fire, present through the pain, merciful through our failures, and strong when we weren’t. So when the opportunity comes to acknowledge Him, why would we suddenly whisper?

You don’t need a microphone.

You don’t need a platform.

You don’t need to have all the answers.

Sometimes bravery is simply refusing to hide Who you belong to. Even if your voice shakes…say His name. Even if you’re standing alone…say His name. Even if believing costs you something…stand firm.

If all you have left is one breath, let that breath belong to the One who gave it to you.

Here’s the blunt truth: If you’re brave enough to claim Jesus privately, be brave enough to say His name publicly.

Brave and Say Your Name

1. Have I ever stayed quiet about Jesus because I was more concerned about people’s reaction than standing firm in my faith?

2. Does my boldness about Jesus come through love, or am I more interested in proving that I’m bold?
