Your Sin Isn’t Just Yours

Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a person sows, that he will also reap. - Galatians 6:7

Can we stop pretending our sin only affects us?

Seriously.

We say things like, “It’s my life.” Okay…but is it really just your life? Because your decisions walk into rooms you aren’t even in.

Your anger goes home with your spouse.

Your gossip follows the person you talked about.

Your dishonesty makes someone else question what they can trust.

Your selfishness makes somebody else carry what you refused to carry.

Your addiction changes the atmosphere of an entire household.

Your adultery doesn’t stay between two people.

Your pride doesn’t just affect your heart, everybody around you has to deal with it.

Your sin travels.

And it’s not just the things we do. Sometimes it’s what we don’t do.

You knew you should’ve helped…but didn’t.

You knew you should’ve spoken…but stayed quiet.

You knew you should’ve apologized…but pride won.

You knew God told you to move…but you stayed comfortable.

We don’t talk about those sins as much because they’re easier to hide. Nobody sees the phone call you didn’t make. Nobody hears the encouragement you didn’t give. Nobody knows about the person God told you to help that you walked past.

But somebody still felt the absence of your obedience.

That’s what we have to understand. Sin isn’t just about “me and God.”

Yes, God forgives. Yes, grace is real. Yes, Christ paid for sin.

But forgiveness doesn’t magically erase every earthly consequence of what we chose to do.

Sometimes God forgives the rock you threw while somebody else is still healing from where it hit them.

Think about that before you say it. Think about that before you do it. Think about that before you refuse to do what you already know is right.

Because somebody else may have to live with the consequences of a decision they never got to make.

And maybe that’s another reason holiness matters so much. God isn’t simply trying to keep you from doing “bad stuff.” He’s protecting you, and sometimes He’s protecting the people connected to you from what your disobedience could produce.

Here’s the blunt truth: Your sin may be your choice…but you don’t get to choose who it hurts.

Your Sin Isn’t Just Yours

1. Who else could be affected by the decisions I’m making right now?

2. Is someone currently carrying the consequences of something I did…or something I refused to do?
