Then Daniel said to the king, ‘O king, live forever!’ - Daniel 6:21
Imagine spending the night in a den full of hungry lions because of someone else’s decision. Then imagine the very next morning, the person responsible for throwing you in comes running to see if you’re alive.
Most of us would’ve had a few things to say.
“I told you so.”
“You should’ve listened.”
“Look what you put me through.”
Not Daniel. The first words out of his mouth were…“O king, live forever!”
Honor.
The king wasn’t Daniel’s enemy. He had been manipulated by those who were. Even though the king signed the decree, Daniel recognized that his battle wasn’t against flesh and blood. So instead of responding with bitterness, he responded with honor.
That’s hard, because our flesh wants to treat people the way they treated us. God calls us to treat people the way He has treated us. Daniel didn’t survive because he argued better.
He survived because God was greater.
And after witnessing God’s faithfulness, the king publicly declared the greatness of Daniel’s God. Daniel’s greatest testimony wasn’t surviving the lions.
It was the way he carried himself before, during, and after the trial. Then comes the part most people miss. The very men who plotted against Daniel were thrown into the same lions’ den, and the lions devoured them before they even reached the bottom.
The trap they built for someone else became the judgment they walked into themselves. Daniel never had to defend himself. God did.
There’s a lesson there.
You don’t have to spend your life getting even with people who try to destroy you. Live honorably. Remain faithful. Trust God.
The same schemes meant to destroy God’s people often become the very things that expose the hearts of those who created them. Your job isn’t revenge. Your job is righteousness. God can handle the rest.
Here’s the blunt truth: Honor doesn’t prove they deserve it. It proves you belong to Him.
Honor Anyway
When someone has wronged me, do I respond like Daniel…or like my flesh?
Am I trusting God to defend me, or am I trying to fight battles He never asked me to fight?
