Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. - Revelation 3:20

You ever have someone knock on your door…and you act like you don’t hear it? You freeze. Turn the TV down. Tell the kids, “Shhh…” You peek through the blinds hoping they leave. Or better yet, you leave delivery instructions that say, “Leave it at the door. Please don’t knock.”

Why? Because opening the door requires interaction. It requires vulnerability. It requires letting someone see inside.

I wonder how many of us treat Jesus the same way. He knocks. We hear Him. We know it’s Him. But we don’t answer. Not because we hate Him. Because we know opening that door means something has to change.

As long as the door stays closed, we convince ourselves everything is fine. Our secrets stay hidden. Our habits stay protected. Our bitterness stays untouched. Our pride stays comfortable. Nobody can see what’s happening inside.

The irony is that Jesus isn’t knocking because He doesn’t know what’s inside. He’s knocking because you won’t let Him deal with what’s inside. He already knows about the addiction. He already knows about the anger. He already knows about the pornography. The affair. The unforgiveness. The anxiety. The fear.

He’s not asking to inspect your house. He’s asking to live in it. Some people want Jesus as a visitor. Few want Him as the Owner.

Visitors don’t rearrange furniture. Owners do.

Visitors don’t clean out closets. Owners do.

Visitors don’t have keys. Owners do.

The safest place isn’t behind a locked door pretending everything is okay. The safest place is opening the door to the One who already knows everything behind it and loves you enough to transform it.

Jesus never forces the handle. He knocks.

The question has never been whether He’s willing to come in. The question has always been whether you’re willing to let Him.

Here’s the blunt truth: Jesus isn’t locked out because He doesn’t know what’s inside. We lock Him out because we do.

Knock-Knock

  1. What room of my life have I been trying to keep closed to Christ?

  1. If Jesus rearranged my life the way an Owner would, what would He ask me to let go of first?
