God gave every one of us a weapon we use every single day…our words. The question isn’t whether your words have power. They do. The question is what they’re producing.
Every conversation plants a seed. Every compliment. Every criticism. Every joke. Every argument. Every post. Every text.
Every word leaves something behind.
Some people walk into a room and leave everyone encouraged. Others leave division, fear, gossip, and discouragement in their wake. The difference isn’t the size of their platform. It’s the condition of their heart. Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Your mouth simply reveals what your heart has been storing.
That’s why we have to be careful what we say.
It’s easy to blame our temper. “I didn’t mean it.” “I was just angry.” “That’s just how I talk.” But words don’t accidentally come out. They overflow. If death continually comes from our mouths, maybe the problem isn’t our tongue…maybe it’s what we’ve allowed to take root in our hearts.
Think about the people you remember most.
Chances are it wasn’t because of what they owned. It was because of what they said.
Some people spoke life into you when you were ready to quit. Others spoke words that wounded you for years. That’s how powerful the tongue is. A sentence can change a life. A careless comment can leave a scar. A word of encouragement can become the reason someone keeps going another day.
As followers of Christ, our mouths should sound different. We shouldn’t be known for gossip, sarcasm that tears people down, constant complaining, or criticism disguised as “just being honest.” We should be known for speaking truth with love, correcting with grace, encouraging the weary, and reminding people of the hope they have in Christ.
Before you speak, ask yourself one question…Will these words leave someone looking more like Christ… or less?
Because once your words leave your mouth, you can never call them back.
You will eat the fruit of what you’ve planted.
So plant life. Speak hope. Give encouragement. Tell the truth. Build people up.
You never know when one sentence may become the turning point in someone’s life.
Here’s the blunt truth: Your mouth is preaching every day. Make sure it’s preaching life.

1. If someone listened to everything I said this week, would they hear more life or more death?
2. Who needs to hear words of encouragement from me today instead of criticism or silence?
