“AMEN PASTOR!!”
Church folks love that word. Preacher says something strong…AMEN. A hard truth gets dropped…AMEN. A convicting statement gets repeated…AMEN.
People will stand up, shout, clap, repeat the line, hype the preacher, repost the clip, and echo the word like they are living every syllable of it.
But are they? Because some amens are not agreement. They are performance. That is what makes it dangerous. If you say amen to “God comes first” but He clearly does not…what exactly are you agreeing with?
If you say amen to “forgive those who hurt you” while actively holding bitterness…what was that?
If you shout amen to “trust God in the storm” but panic every time life gets uncomfortable…was that faith or theater?
Some people amen things because everybody else is. Some amen because the moment feels emotional. Some amen because they want the statement to become true someday.
And some amen because it sounds spiritual and because everyone else is doing it. But if you are verbally agreeing with something your life is actively rejecting…that is not worship. That is contradiction.
Now hear me clearly…nobody lives every truth perfectly. Growth is real. Conviction is real. Sometimes we say amen because we are agreeing with what God is calling us into. But there is a difference between aspirational agreement and habitual fakery.
If “amen” has become a reflex instead of a response…check your heart.
Because repeating God’s Word without surrendering to it can make you feel righteous while staying unchanged. Do not make His truth background noise for your public spirituality.
Here’s the blunt truth: If your life keeps saying “no” while your mouth repeats the pastors “amen”…one of them is lying.
